SIGNS OF A BROKEN LAPTOP SCREEN!
Common Notebook Screen Sizes
15.6″ is the most common size for laptop screens but the average size is somewhat lower than that. It is also gradually losing its popularity as mobility becomes more and more valued. 13.3″ is a close second to 15.6″ in popularity overall, and is much more popular in the mid to high end price range.
It is cheaper to manufacture a laptop with decent performance & battery life in 15.6″ than at a smaller size, so along with 13.3″ it remains a very popular choice for budget machines meant for general office/home use such as email, web browsing, media consumption, etc. Portable 2-in-1 tablets, ‘ultrabooks’ and business laptops are generally 10.1″ 11.6″, 13.3″, or 14″. Most high-power laptops meant for intensive use, content creation and gaming are 14″, 15.6″, or 17.3″.
Laptop Display Resolution
1366*768 and the non-widescreen equivalent 1024*768 have been the ‘standard’ resolution for laptop screens since laptops were invented. Now that 1920*1080 (1080p or FHD) screens prices are closer to HD screens (1366*768), this dated standard is finally being superseded. I’m not sure which of these 2 is the most popular today, but Full HD will soon overtake HD if it hasn’t already done so.
High Resolution Screen Are The Future
Low-end 13.3″ and 15.6″ machines will ship with either a FHD / 1080p screen, with the former becoming less and less common rapidly. Ultrabooks and business laptops usually come with a FHD or a 2560*1440 (1440p or QHD) display. High end multimedia, gaming, and content-creation oriented machines will have at least a 1080p display, with 1440p, 2880*1800 (3K or QHD+), 3840*2160 (4K or Ultra HD) & similar resolutions becoming more and more popular as mobile graphics cards become more and more powerful. 4K is likely to overtake 1080p as the most popular resolution for new machines.
